About The Position

Sertoma is seeking caregivers who want to work in a family-oriented environment and serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Caregivers act as direct support professionals (DSPs), supporting the health, welfare, and day-to-day lives of residents while helping maintain a family-type atmosphere in Sertoma-managed homes across Knoxville, Tennessee. Each home serves 1–4 people, and a caregiver is assigned no more than four people at a time. Caregivers provide compassionate care, encouragement, and instruction in well-maintained residential homes. The position is full-time and uses 12-hour shifts. No prior DSP or caregiving experience is necessary; Sertoma provides paid job training.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Tennessee driver's license.
U.S. work authorization.
Must be at least 19 years old.
At least 3 years of driving experience.
Effective verbal and written communication.
Flexibility and ability to adapt to a changing work environment.
Leadership capabilities.
Dependable and trustworthy.
Able to handle physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and standing.

Nice To Haves

Written and verbal bilingual fluency.

Responsibilities

Care for 1 to 4 people supported at a time.
Perform personal and health-care tasks, including basic hygiene and grooming, feeding, mobilization, and medical monitoring.
Document confidential information daily.
Maintain a safe environment to support the personal safety of people served.
Foster positive relationships with people served.
Accompany people served to scheduled appointments.
