The Career Transition Specialist is responsible for assisting assignees in all aspects of career transition, including job search skills, job placement issues, job retention, and Job Corps CTS services and requirements. This role involves securing placement data for assignees, identifying those who are no longer employed or in school, and ensuring reconnection with another placement, school, or military within the service window. The specialist will conduct interviews with students preparing to exit the center, provide re-orientation, and focus on job search techniques. A key responsibility is creating and maintaining a caseload of active assignee files, establishing a tickler system for caseload management, and documenting all actions in CTS case notes through bi-weekly or monthly contact via telephone and/or in person. The role also includes visiting classrooms and trade shops to educate students on CTS processes, employability skills, career preparation, job search, and job retention. The specialist will familiarize students with military, school, and job opportunities and offers. Additionally, they will maintain linkages with military services, One Stops, and other external resources, maintain job banks, secure and post job leads, set up job interviews, and arrange transportation assistance and other support services. Job development will be performed by screening leads from various sources such as newspaper classifieds, telephone, personal contacts, referrals, internet, and other youth service organizations. The specialist will track individual performance through regular checks of POMS reports for correct information on all caseload students and complete the appeals process and verify placements to reconcile any errors in 6/12-month surveys.
