About The Position

The Career & Technical Education Advisor is responsible to the Director of Career and Technical Education and the Campus Principal. The CTE Advisor's primary purpose is to plan, implement, and evaluate the completion of a CTE program of study for all students. This includes providing career interest and aptitude assessment activities, determining career and technical education needs, and assisting students and parents with career and educational planning strategies. The role also involves providing informational and recruitment sessions to middle school and high school students and parents to contribute to the District's overall student academic achievement towards post-secondary and career preparedness.

Requirements

  • TEA certification requirements for Counselor
  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
  • Strong familiarization with Special Education rules and regulations
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
  • Ability to work with groups of students and teachers
  • Highly Qualified as per NCLB guidelines, if applicable to teaching assignment

Responsibilities

  • Supplement the academic program by ensuring that the required use of funds are in compliance as defined in the Federal Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006.
  • Provide Career & Technical Education advisement to current Edinburg CISD middle school and high school students and parents.
  • Conduct advisement processes which may include: an interview, intake, assessment of academic and career goals, and selection of Career & Technical Education Program of Study.
  • Work jointly with Academic Counselors to create/implement a graduation plan that includes the completion of a CTE program of study, along with an aligned Industry Based Certification for all students.
  • Work with administrators, teachers, employers, and other counselors for effective dissemination of occupational information to students.
  • Provide students with information on careers that are nontraditional for their gender.
  • Coordinate the efforts of Career and Technical Education in serving all students.
  • Support the efforts of Career & Technical Education staff in attending Special Education ARD meetings.
  • Select, administer, and interpret test instruments used in assisting students in making career choices.
  • Work with administrators, counselors, and career education teachers to provide orientation to students relating to coherent and rigorous academic and Career and Technical Education offerings.
  • Develop and maintain a Texas Achievement Plan for each student.
  • Provide counseling for Career and Technical Education students.
  • Work with "feeder" schools regularly to explain CTE programs to prospective students.
  • Provide opportunities for students to earn Dual Enrollment Credit, Advanced Technical Credit, and/or locally articulated credit.
  • Provide opportunities for students to learn all aspects of an industry, including industry-recognized certification if appropriate.
  • Provide students and parents an opportunity to choose a program of study and a list of the appropriate courses needed for "completer status".
  • Assist with CTE Advisement trainings for Edinburg CISD faculty and staff.
  • Evaluate high school students' coherent sequence of courses for Career and Technical Education PEIMS coding.
  • Identify Tech Prep Texas Scholars as per Tech Prep RGV guidelines.
  • Plan and coordinate campus career fair.
  • Promote seamless transition from high school to college and career.
  • Teach school developmental guidance curriculum to students.
  • Help teachers incorporate career guidance-related information into existing curriculum.
  • Develop and implement classroom presentations and activities related to the delivery of a comprehensive career development guidance program.
  • Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop educational plans and career awareness.
  • Visit classrooms, schedule activities and maintain regular office hours at ECISD Career Center, ECISD CTE Building, the high school and middle schools.
  • Counsel individuals and small groups about their concerns.
  • Be prepared to discuss CTE academic advisement with students and parents.
  • Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
  • Work with school personnel and school district residents to obtain resources for students.
  • Use an effective referral process to help students and others use special programs and services.
  • Participate in planning and evaluation of Interest and Aptitude testing program.
  • Assist students, parents, and teachers with career/technical opportunities and experiences by scheduling appropriate career activities such as career days, field trips, and career guest speakers.
  • Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the Career and Technical Education guidance program and make changes based on findings.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Submit monthly activity reports to Campus Principal, CTE Campus administrator, and Edinburg CISD CTE Director.
  • Consult and coordinate with campus administration in creating the CTE Master Schedule.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in guidance and counseling area.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Track and monitor student's CTE academic progress and attendance through several report methods.
  • Conduct CTE credit checks for students.
  • Create and maintain electronic students' CTE completer academic plan.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to self and/or to others.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
