About The Position

A Care Companion provides basic health care and support to patients under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional. The role includes sanitizing and cleaning patient rooms, monitoring patients’ health and vital signs, and helping patients with basic needs such as feeding and grooming. The position is at Maryview Medical Center in the 5-South Surgical department and is scheduled PRN, with all work shifts listed.

Requirements

• Possess problem-solving skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner.
• Be able to act proactively in a rapidly changing environment.
• Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved source before providing direct patient care.

Nice To Haves

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is preferred upon hire.
• Recent experience in a healthcare environment is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and comfort, including personal care and hygiene, toileting, and mobility assistance.
• Create a safe environment for patients.
• Act as a liaison between patients and nurses by reporting changes or concerns.
• Provide high-level customer service to patients, patients’ families, visitors, and employees.
• Participate in hand-off reports about pertinent patient and departmental needs upon arrival and departure.
• Sanitize and clean patient rooms.
• Monitor patients’ health and vital signs.
• Assist patients with basic needs, including feeding and grooming.
