About The Position

This position is in support of the County of Sarasota Florida to provide care for those with special needs who are displaced in the event of a largescale disaster. This position requires the individual to be able to respond to a disaster with in 24 hours of notice and to establish care with in 72 hours of notification. This is a post disaster mission and will require the individual to be onsite until conclusion of the operation. The Care Assistant provides healthcare and support to patients in the medical facility. Duties include offering basic physical assistance to patients, feeding patients according to their dietary needs and recording vital signs. They will perform these duties under the supervision of a Nurse.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited program for Certified Nursing Assistants or Medical Assistants located in a U.S. State, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory OR at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum one year of professional experience as a licensed CNA or a certified MA in a hospital, medical office or residential setting.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license as a CNA or certification as an MA in the state of Florida.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Current and valid driver's license.
  • Travel to Sarasota upon notification.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting patients as directed with daily activities.
  • Stocking medical supplies.
  • Monitoring vital signs and changing wound dressings.
  • Preforming medical assessments of patients.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and updating them confidentially.
  • Communicating with patients and their families, as well as other healthcare personnel.
  • Clean and bathe patients or residents.
  • Maintain patients’ hygiene and change bedding.
  • Turn, reposition and move patients between wheelchairs, seats and beds.
  • Serve meals and help patients eat their food.
  • Listen to patients regarding any health concerns they might have and report details to a Registered Nurse or Medical Provider (MD, PA, NP).
  • Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.
