This position involves providing professional, highly technical cardiovascular care to patients and assisting physicians during all cardiovascular procedures. The technologist acts as a liaison for patients, families, and physicians, and assists with the operation of technical equipment. Key responsibilities include setting up cardiac cath lab procedure rooms, maintaining knowledge of equipment, pressure monitoring, cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, EKG interpretation, sterile technique, and radiation safety practices. The role requires proficiency in scrubbing, circulating, and monitoring for all Cath Lab procedures, inspecting and preparing operative areas, and communicating procedural information. The technologist will also be responsible for observing sterile technique, recording EKG information and pressure tracings, maintaining complete documentation, and preparing patients for emergency procedures. Additional duties include documenting medications and interventions, responding to emergencies, providing post-catheterization information, assisting cardiologists, cleaning and preparing rooms, performing digital imaging, collecting ACC Data, managing supplies for billing and inventory, and continuously updating knowledge and skills through professional development. The role also involves collaborating with the health team, demonstrating cardiac pharmacology comprehension, troubleshooting equipment, removing sheaths, and maintaining competency in emergency and infection control procedures.

Requirements

  • Current Radiologic Technologic licensure in the State of Ohio with experience in cath lab.
  • Attain and maintain current ACLS and BLS certification.
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to respond appropriately to emergent situations.
  • Skilled in interpersonal communication and organization to effectively interact with patients, physicians, cath lab staff, and other Firelands employees.
  • Ability to utilize computer system and file system to facilitate patient records management.
  • Ability to anticipate patient, physician, and unit needs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional, highly technical cardiovascular care to all cardiovascular patients, while assisting physicians during all cardiovascular procedures.
  • Functions as a liaison for patients, families, and physicians.
  • Assists the physician in the operation of technical equipment utilized during all procedures.
  • Assists with setting up cardiac cath lab procedure rooms by providing necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of equipment utilized in procedures, pressure monitoring, cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, EKG interpretation, sterile technique, and radiation safety practices.
  • Proficient in scrubbing, circulating, and monitoring for all Cath Lab procedures.
  • Inspects and prepares operative area as necessary.
  • Communicates relevant procedural information to physician and ancillary personnel.
  • Observes sterile technique and proper disposal of infected materials.
  • Records EKG information, samples and records pressure tracings, and informs appropriate personnel of changes during procedure.
  • Maintains complete documentation of cardiovascular procedures.
  • Ensures completion of all registry abstracts.
  • Prepares patient for emergency coronary artery bypass graft by completing proper documentation, sending necessary blood work to lab, and notifying CV team.
  • Documents all medications given, contrast injections, and attempts at vessel modification (e.g. inflations, shaves, stent placement) and other pertinent information regarding procedure.
  • Responds to emergency situations appropriately and calls for assistance as needed.
  • Provides post-catheterization information to patient and significant others.
  • Assists cardiologist during procedures in team role by supplying equipment and anticipating routine and special needs.
  • Assists in room clean-up after cases, and prepares room for next case.
  • Performs digital imaging techniques, maintains archival storage of digitized data.
  • Demonstrates proper knowledge of radiographic principles in order to acquire the best diagnostic cardiovascular images.
  • Collects and enters correct information required for ACC Data Submission.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all supplies (catheters, guide wires, etc.) and assists with tracking supplies used to aid in proper billing and inventory control.
  • Updates knowledge and skills through membership and participation in professional associations, attends meetings and seminars, and reads professional journals.
  • Keeps current with the constantly changing cardiovascular advances in equipment and procedures.
  • Maintains a minimum of 24 CEU hours per 2 year period.
  • Collaborates with other members of health team to determine and achieve healthcare goals.
  • Demonstrates comprehension of cardiac pharmacology.
  • Attain working knowledge of the ability to trouble-shoot Cath Lab job-related equipment.
  • Remove arterial and venous sheaths and complete documentation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of closure devices presently in use and aid with their deployment and post-care.
  • Maintains competency in Firelands emergency and infection control procedures.
  • Complies with all Firelands and departmental policies.
  • Works approved overtime as required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Ability to be on call for after hour and weekend procedures and to be able to respond to Firelands timely.
  • Proficient with age-specific nursing care.
  • Able to transport patients to and from the cath lab via wheelchair, stretcher or bed.
  • Able to help transfer patients from wheelchair or bed to the x-ray table and back.
  • Assumes accountability for demonstrating behaviors consistent with the customer service policy.
