This role involves precepting new staff and students, mastering hemodynamics concepts, and possessing intermediate knowledge of x-ray equipment and troubleshooting. The specialist will assist with circulating duties as needed, troubleshoot imaging equipment in collaboration with biomedical engineers, and participate in procedural charging. Responsibilities include supply management, acting quickly in emergency situations, discussing plans of action with physicians, assisting with high-risk procedures, and cross-training to support departmental needs. The role requires monitoring cases, understanding and working with x-ray systems (including panning tables and recognizing different angles), managing access sites (including sheath removal, hematoma assessment, and management), understanding radiation safety concepts, and possessing knowledge of coronary anatomy and lesion recognition. Basic knowledge of supply features and applications, along with adherence to sterile technique, is essential. Effective communication with the team, patients, families, and medical staff is crucial. In the Cath Lab, the specialist will assist with complex procedures like PCI (including CTO), multiple wire exchanges, and the use of long wires and OTW balloons. Experience with specialty devices such as rotablater, CSI, laser, and shockwave is expected. Participation in structural heart cases may occur, and the ability to troubleshoot emergency equipment like balloon pumps and ventricular assist devices is required. The specialist will assist in the scrub role for procedures such as right & left heart catheterization, PCIs, and STEMIs. In the EP Lab, assistance will be provided for advanced procedures like lead extractions, complex ablations, and independent stims. Scrub role assistance will be provided for cardiac ablations, device implants, ECDs, generator changes, and loop recorders.
