About The Position

This role involves precepting new staff and students, mastering hemodynamics concepts, and possessing intermediate knowledge of x-ray equipment and troubleshooting. The specialist will assist in the circulating role as needed, troubleshoot imaging equipment in collaboration with biomedical engineers, and participate in procedural charging. Responsibilities include supply management, acting quickly in emergency situations, discussing plans of action with physicians, and assisting with high-risk procedures. The role requires cross-training to support departmental needs, monitoring cases, understanding and working with x-ray systems including panning tables and recognizing different angles. The specialist will manage access sites, including proper sheath removal, hematoma assessment, and management. Understanding radiation safety concepts, coronary anatomy, recognizing different lesion types, and basic knowledge of supply features and applications are essential. Adherence to sterile technique and effective communication with the team, patients, families, and medical staff are required.

Requirements

  • Licensed AEMT OR National Registered Paramedic (NRP) OR graduate of accredited school of radiologic technology OR accredited school of cardiovascular technology OR academic program in health sciences.
  • Must become registered as an ARRT with post primary category of cardiac interventional radiography or RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) or RCES obtained within 12 months of hire or promotion as a condition of continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Precepts new staff and students.

  • Assists with circulating role as needed.

  • Manages access site including proper removal of sheath, assessment of hematoma and knowledge of hematoma management.
  • Understands concepts of radiation safety.
  • Knowledgeable in coronary anatomy and recognizing different types of lesions.
  • Basic knowledge of supply features and applications to procedure.
  • Knowledge and adherence to sterile technique.
  • Able to communicate effectively with team, patients, families and medical staff.
  • Assists in procedures such as complex PCI including CTO.
  • Able to assist with complex procedures; including multiple wire exchanges and able to use long wires and OTW balloons.
  • Should be able to use specialty devices such as rotablater, CSI, laser and shockwave.
  • May participate in structural heart cases.
  • Able to troubleshoot emergency equipment (balloon pump and ventricular assist device).
  • Assists in scrub role for procedures such as right & left heart catherization, PCIs and STEMIs.
  • Assists in advanced EP procedures (such as lead extractions at some sites, complex ablations and stims independently).
  • Assist in scrub role for procedures such as cardiac ablations and device implants, ECDs, generator changes, loop recorders.
