Cardiovascular Sonographer Supervisor
About The Position
Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking a dedicated Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist Supervisor. This is a full-time position with a variable shift. Sign-on and relocation bonuses are available. The supervisor performs cardiac or vascular sonography and supports physicians during examinations, explaining procedures to patients and families and following department protocols, isolation precautions, and sterile technique. The role also supports department operations and leadership, including staffing, hiring, staff education and training, performance management, quality initiatives, research, accreditation, budgeting, and resource use. The supervisor serves as a preceptor and resource for students, sonographers, and fellows, and performs advanced imaging such as 3D and strain imaging, uses contrast, and assists cardiologists with TEE studies. Candidates must have at least seven years of experience performing cardiac or vascular sonography in a hospital or healthcare environment, the specified sonography education or specialized training, and the applicable credentials listed below. Basic Life Support certification is required upon starting.
Requirements
- At least seven years of experience performing cardiac or vascular sonography in a hospital or healthcare environment.
- Basic Life Support certification upon starting.
- Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography school or program, or five years of specialized training in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Applicable credentials as specified in the posting: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography registration with Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer certification; or Cardiovascular Credentialing International registration with certification for vascular. The posting also lists Registered Cardiac Sonographer certification for Echo, or ARDMS with Registered Vascular Technologist, or CCI with Registered Vascular Specialist.
Responsibilities
- Explain procedures to patients and families, answer questions, ease anxiety, and support patient cooperation.
- Assist physicians with examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and sterile technique.
- Participate in department and hospital performance-improvement initiatives, in-services, and meetings, and attend at least 50 percent of QA conferences.
- Assist with departmental projects and operations, including ICAEL accreditation, echo research projects, and cardiac fellowship activities.
- Assist departmental leadership with hiring, education, and training of new staff.
- Ensure adequate 24-hour staffing plans and equitable staffing requirements; adjust assignments as needed to provide extended coverage and maintain patient and examination throughput.
- Promote teamwork through clear performance expectations, communication, and collaboration.
- Counsel staff and initiate disciplinary processes with Director and Human Resources approval; complete staff evaluations on time.
- Act as a preceptor and resource for students, echo vascular sonographers, and fellows.
- Perform advanced imaging, including 3D and strain imaging and contrast use; assist cardiologists with TEE studies and perform 3D image manipulation and analysis independently or with physician assistance.
- Participate in research protocols.
- Use the department operating budget and resources effectively and responsibly; oversee cost-effective purchasing and use of supplies.
- Work with the director or manager to project future equipment upgrades and replacement schedules.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
