About The Position

Inova Alexandria is seeking a dedicated Cardiovascular Sonographer 1 to join its team in a full-time role. A sign-on bonus and relocation assistance are available. The position performs diagnostic examinations using standard department protocols and supports patient safety, accurate study tracking, effective communication, and high-quality exam performance.

Requirements

• Recent experience in a hospital or healthcare environment as a sonographer or sonographer student.
• Basic Life Support certification upon starting.
• Obtain ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or CCI Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification within one year of hire.
• Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography school or program, or five years of specialized training in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and sterile technique when appropriate.
• Verify patient identity and confirm appropriate orders to prevent mismatched studies.
• Communicate with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent and explain the test, supporting optimal exam performance and interpretation.
• Identify clinical or emergent issues that may affect examinations and take timely, appropriate action.
• Follow Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography standards when performing IV contrast or other test-enhancing injections, when appropriate.
• Track patients according to departmental procedures, identify discrepancies, and initiate prompt corrective action.
• Promote patient safety using appropriate equipment and monitoring techniques, and report, document, and address adverse, unsafe, or unusual conditions using established tracking systems.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
