About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for a Cardiovascular Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in an inpatient CVICU setting. The role involves daily rounding, patient management, order entry, admissions, and post-operative management. Key responsibilities include managing VA & VV ECMO, Impella, LVAD, and cardiac transplants. The position also requires performing procedures such as arterial lines, central lines, swans, and IABP removal. The CVICU is a 30-bed unit within a Level I trauma facility and an academic teaching institution, with an average patient census of 8-12.

Requirements

  • Active Pennsylvania licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Minimum 1-year Cardiothoracic Surgery experience or equivalent
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics)
  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
  • Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Pennsylvania
  • National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP])
  • Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Pennsylvania
  • National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • At least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty

  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
