About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for a Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). The role involves inpatient, OR, and call coverage for adult patients. Cases include CABG, AVR, MVR, and Thoracotomies. Weekend duties include inpatient rounds, procedures, and OR first assist. The schedule is Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, with rotating night and weekend call. The position is for an independent contractor (1099) and does not include typical W-2 employment benefits.

Requirements

• Active Kentucky licensure
• Board certification
• AHA BLS and ACLS certifications
• Minimum 1-year Cardiothoracic Surgery experience or equivalent
• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics) OR Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
• Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Kentucky OR Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Kentucky
• National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP]) OR National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
• Proficiency in performing physical examinations and procedures relevant to their specialty
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose and manage complex medical conditions
• Time management skills to efficiently manage a patient workload
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a healthcare team

Nice To Haves

• Candidates with at least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty are preferred for locum APP positions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests
• Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
• Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
• Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
• Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
• Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
• Inpatient rounds, procedures, and OR first assist on weekends
