About The Position

We are seeking a Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant for a long-term contract position in San Francisco, CA. This is an inpatient, clinical-only role covering cardiothoracic surgical patient care, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative management. The schedule is 2 days per week, 6 hours per day, with specific days to be confirmed within a Monday-Friday framework. The role involves rounding on adult patients and utilizing the CPRS EMR system. The facility is equipped with a heart-lung machine, auto-transfusion pump, intra-aortic balloon pump, and centrifugal ventricular assist device. Hospital privileges are required, but temporary privileges are available.

Requirements

• Active unrestricted license in any U.S. state or territory
• NCCPA Certified
• DEA Required
• BLS and ACLS (AHA) certifications
• Must have documented experience with 100+ endoscopic vein harvesting procedures
• Strong cardiothoracic surgical assisting experience required
• No history of license restrictions or disciplinary actions

• Endoscopic radial vein harvesting
• Endoscopic saphenous vein harvesting
• Ultrasound-guided arterial and venous access for central line placement
• Chest tube and pigtail insertion/removal
• Swan-Ganz catheter insertion/removal
• Removal of pacing wires

• First and second assist responsibilities in cardiothoracic surgery
• Bedside assistant support for robotic procedures
• Operation and removal of intra-aortic balloon pump

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient cardiothoracic surgical support and patient management
• Perform endoscopic vein harvesting procedures
• Assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures as first and second assist
• Perform bedside procedures and post-operative patient care
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary surgical and inpatient care teams
• Ensure timely documentation and adherence to facility protocols
