About The Position

The Cardiology Technician performs stress tests, nuclear imaging stress tests, and SAECG’s, accurate ECG’s/rhythm strips on inpatients and outpatients under routine and emergency situations. Participates in required training for PCTs and RNs. Must have knowledge of all computerized equipment and techniques used within the cardiology departments. Assists supervisor with monitoring and ordering supplies. Must be able to operate standard office equipment, including PC and printer. Must maintain a clean, organized work area.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of an EKG course through a college-level program or one (1) year of experience performing EKGs in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Current BLS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies that orders and charges for all EKGs have been entered properly and notifies supervisors with issues.
  • Provides daily professional billing EKG list to Revenue Cycle Associates in a timely manner.
  • Check all EKGs for quality and appropriate documentation and notify supervisor when there are issues.
  • Maintains a weekly log by unit for all EKGs with quality and/or documentation issues and delivers log to unit NMs weekly.
  • Prepares patients for all types of stress tests and coordinates completion with cardiologist and echo techs (when needed) in a timely manner.
  • Completes all paperwork required for stress tests in a timely manner.
  • Must be proficient in using MARS system for stress testing.
  • Must be proficient in the use of MUSE system for EKG completion.
  • Reports all MUSE, MARS, and Soarian issues to IT, BioMed, and/or supervisor as appropriate.
  • Send reports as requested by physicians and hospitals in a timely manner.
  • Participates, as scheduled, in training of PCTs and RNs, including competency fairs, as needed.
  • Provides technical assistance to all areas of the hospital, including troubleshooting any issues related to EKGs.
  • Completes EKGs, as needed, in specific areas of the hospital as determined by the supervisor.
