The Cardiac Stress Technician performs various duties related to stress testing which include but are not limited to patient preparation, assisting with the administration of exercise and pharmacological stress tests, IV insertion, ECG placement and interpretation. This position requires population specific competencies. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

Requirements

  • Completion of EMT or Paramedic training program or 3 years of acute hospital and/or cardiology experience
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 60 days of hire
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 90 days of hire
  • NREMT-EMT or OSDH-EMT or NREMT-EMT-A or OSDH-EMT-A or NREMT-PARAMEDIC or OSDH-PARAMEDIC or CCI-CCT or CCI-RCES or CCI-RCIS or CCI-CRAT or CCI-RCS or APCA-CBNC

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, or Exercise Science

Responsibilities

  • Maintains all patient files and departmental log sheets in proper order
  • Participates in departmental/institutional Performance Improvement Plan (PIP)
  • Reads and translates medical terminology written by providers for obtaining ECG tracings, stress testing, and related activities as evidenced by direct observation
  • Performs patient preparation for cardiac stress testing including IV insertion and EKG placement
  • Performs and/or assist with various types of cardiac stress testing which include but is not limited to: Nuclear Stress Testing, Ultrasound Cardiac Stress Testing, Ultrasound Arterial Physiologic Stress Testing, Exercise Tolerance Test, Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (VO2 testing)
  • Practices aseptic technique for initiating and maintaining intravenous cannulation devices
  • Logs, records, transcribes, charts, distributes, and/or posts test results after physician review and interpretation
  • Processes reports and associated changes via information systems according to policies and procedures
  • Performs regular equipment evaluation and maintenance, including defibrillator checks and emergency cart checks according to established policies
  • Demonstrates teamwork by communicating effectively and working cooperatively with others to optimize the job performance and foster productive, working relationships.
