Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and two-year associate’s degree.
  • One (1) or more years of experience in performing adult echocardiogram and stress echocardiogram, carotid ultrasound imaging, and arterial and venous studies.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty as appropriate.
  • AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card or within 60 days of hire required.
  • Ability to effectively operate ultrasound equipment.
  • Ability to continue to learn and grow in profession.
  • Ability to evaluate ultrasounds in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information.
  • Ability to integrate diagnostic ultrasound, laboratory results, patient history and medical records, and adapt ultrasound examination as necessary.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic ultrasound information in each examination performed.
  • Ability to evaluate, synthesize, and communicate diagnostic information to the attending physician.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of ultrasound examinations and patient's needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and health care team.
  • Ability to follow established departmental procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer, Registered Vascular Specialist
  • Experience leading or involved in obtaining ICAEL accreditation a plus.
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

Responsibilities

  • Performing echocardiographic sonography, cardiovascular ultrasound studies, including stress echocardiogram, echocardiograms, carotid ultrasound imaging, vascular, abdomen, arterial and venous studies for physician review in a timely manner.
  • Preparing patients for exam by explaining procedure, transferring patient to ultrasound table, scrubbing skin and applying gel, and positioning patient properly.
  • Ensuring images produced by ultrasound machine are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes while making adjustments to machine as required.
  • Working collaboratively with other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care.
  • Assuming responsibility for patient testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.
  • Performing procedures according to physician's orders in the patient's chart.
  • Calibrating and maintaining equipment and ordering supplies when needed.
  • Performing all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Providing precise documentation on all recorded ultrasound procedures.
  • Using independent judgment during the exam to accurately differentiate between normal and abnormal findings.
  • Assuming responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the technician’s care.
  • Addressing problems of patient care as they arise and making decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
  • Establishing and maintaining ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating referral offices, hospitals, or commercial agencies.
  • Adhering to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
  • Regular and dependable attendance.
