Cardiac Sonographer
About The Position
Performs 2-dimensional, color Doppler and Doppler of the heart echocardiograms. Also performs stress and dobutamine echocardiograms, which requires a high level of knowledge to interpret and analyze test performance and results. Must be proficient and knowledgeable in non-imaging continuous Doppler to perform effective results for diagnosing and imaging abnormal pathologies. Must have mastered all phases of echocardiography in order to be proficient in diagnosing wall motion abnormalities, left ventricular regional wall abnormalities, pericardial/pleural effusion, connections of stenotic and regurgitant lesions, and congenital abnormalities. Must have the ability to review and interpret test results and to notify referring physician or house officer of a preliminary report. Reviews the patient's chart to obtain pertinent clinical history in order to perform the test and to accurately interpret and perform the cardiac examination. Explains procedure to the patient and positions patient for the cardiac ultrasound examination. Performs several portable studies a day requiring mobilization of the equipment by the technician. Records and reviews test results for accuracy and prepares test reports, utilizing ancillary devices (video recorder and transducer) to obtain a permanent record of the cardiac examination. Records, calculates and plots known control values on technical instruments to ensure their reliability and accuracy in reporting out test results. Maintains testing rooms in clean and orderly condition, which includes disposing of soiled linen, stocking necessary supplies, and so forth. Cleans equipment such as patient cable, transducer, and ultrasound machine.
Requirements
- Proficient and knowledgeable in non-imaging continuous Doppler.
- Mastered all phases of echocardiography.
- Ability to diagnose wall motion abnormalities.
- Ability to diagnose left ventricular regional wall abnormalities.
- Ability to diagnose pericardial and pleural effusion.
- Ability to diagnose connections of stenotic and regurgitant lesions.
- Ability to diagnose congenital abnormalities.
- Ability to review and interpret test results.
- Ability to notify referring physician or house officer of a preliminary report.
- Ability to review patient's chart for clinical history.
- Ability to explain procedures to patients.
- Ability to position patients for examination.
- Ability to mobilize equipment for portable studies.
- Ability to record and review test results for accuracy.
- Ability to prepare test reports.
- Ability to utilize ancillary devices.
- Ability to record, calculate and plot control values on technical instruments.
- Ability to maintain testing rooms in clean and orderly condition.
