About The Position

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider responsible for the assessment and management of various patient populations, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care, and ongoing evaluation. The Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) Physician Assistant (PA) will practice in inpatient, outpatient/ambulatory, and procedural settings, ensuring the effective delivery of care to patients. Inpatient and peri-procedural care involves obtaining and coordinating history and physicals, laboratory results, charting, registry documentation, orders, sedation assessments, nursing instructions, and consents. The PA may assist in coordinating admissions and transfers, perform pre-procedure assessments, and manage patients post-procedure, including vascular access, arrhythmias, pacing, and drug therapy. They will assist in evaluating and managing clinical events, transfers to ICUs, and provide patient education for discharge, including preventive care and risk factor reduction. The PA will also act as a liaison between the attending cardiologist and family members and schedule follow-up care. Ambulatory care includes preparing patients for admissions/procedures, educating them on electrophysiology treatments, and collaborating with staff for patient care. This involves symptom management, evaluation, prescription writing, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies (with attending MD review), and handling patient calls. Care is provided via in-person clinic visits, virtual clinic visits, and telehealth. Procedural care involves assisting the attending physician with cardioversions, suturing, cardiac subcutaneous monitor implant/explant, first assisting during diagnostic EP studies/ablations, device implantation, and research procedures. This also includes managing fluid and electrolyte balance, nutrition, pain, transfusion therapy, anticoagulation, education, and post-discharge planning.

Requirements

Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
Physician Assistant [State License] - MA PA License required
Experience as a licensed Physician Assistant preferred
Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
Ability to maintain quality control standards.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
Knowledge of Universal Precautions and proper use of surgical sharp instruments may be required.

Responsibilities

Obtain and coordinate history and physicals, laboratory results, charting, registry documentation, orders, sedation assessment, nursing instructions, and consent.
Coordinate admissions and transfers to the hospital.
Perform pre-procedure assessments.
Manage patients after procedures, including vascular access, arrhythmias, pacing, and drug therapy.
Assist in the evaluation and management of clinical events such as fever, altered hemodynamics, CHF, pulmonary complications, abrupt vessel closure, arrhythmias, and access site complications.
Assist in transfers to and from intensive care units.
Perform patient education regarding discharge, including preventive care and risk factor reduction.
Write discharge orders, prescriptions, and complete discharge summaries.
Act as a liaison between the attending cardiologist and family members.
Schedule follow-up care as necessary.
Prepare patients for admissions/procedures.
Educate patients regarding a variety of electrophysiology treatments and procedures.
Provide care via in-person clinic visits, virtual clinic visits, and telehealth.

First assist during diagnostic EP studies/ablations, device implantation, and research procedures.
