About The Position

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider responsible for the assessment and management of various patient populations, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care, and ongoing evaluation. The Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) Physician Assistant (PA) will practice in inpatient, outpatient/ambulatory, and procedural settings, involved in all aspects of care with the primary goal of ensuring effective delivery of care to patients.

Requirements

Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
Physician Assistant [State License] - MA PA License required
Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
Ability to maintain quality control standards.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
Knowledge of Universal Precautions and proper use of surgical sharp instruments may be required.

Responsibilities

Obtain and coordinate history and physicals, laboratory results, charting of clinical findings, registry documentation, orders, sedation assessment, nursing instructions, and consent for inpatient and peri-procedural care.
Coordinate admissions and transfers to the hospital in collaboration with Laboratory Flow Managers.
Perform pre-procedure assessments in the recovery room/holding area or outpatient setting.
Manage patients after procedures (in collaboration with the consult Fellow) while they await transfer to patient floor or discharge.
Assist in family liaison.
Manage vascular access, monitor and manage arrhythmias, pacing, drug therapy, O2 therapy, and other non-cardiac medications under the supervision of the attending physician.
Assist in the evaluation and management of clinical events such as fever, altered hemodynamics, CHF, pulmonary complications, abrupt vessel closure, arrhythmias, and access site complications.
Assist in transfers to and from intensive care units.
Perform patient education regarding discharge, including preventive care and risk factor reduction.
Write discharge orders, prescriptions, and complete discharge summaries in collaboration with the attending physician.
Act as a liaison between the attending cardiologist and family members and schedule follow-up care.
Prepare patients for admissions/procedures in collaboration with the team.
Educate patients regarding a variety of electrophysiology treatments and procedures.
Work collaboratively with nursing/clinic staff to assist in patient care, including symptom management, evaluation and management, prescription writing, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies (with review by attending MD), and handling patient calls and questions.
Provide care via in-person clinic visits, virtual clinic visits, and telehealth.
Perform cardioversions, suturing, cardiac subcutaneous monitor implant/explant.
First assist during diagnostic EP studies/ablations, device implantation, and research procedures.
Manage fluid and electrolyte balance, nutrition, pain, and transfusion therapy.
Manage anticoagulation.
Participate in departmental and organizational committees and programs.
Attend all required meetings, in-services, and professional trainings.
Remain actively involved in continuing education with a commitment to self and departmental growth.
Identify areas for professional growth and formulate professional goals, objectives, and methods for accomplishing them.
Support initiatives within BWH, the Department of Medicine, and the Cardiovascular Division.
