About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Cardiac Catheterization Technician II in our Adult Cardiac Cath Lab at the Hyde Park campus. This is a full-time, onsite position. Under the direction of physicians and nursing staff, the Cardiac Catheterization Technician II supports patients before, during, and after cardiac catheterization procedures. Responsibilities include patient education, sterile preparation, electrocardiograms, hemodynamic monitoring and recording, and technical assistance during cardiac procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • At least two years of experience as a Cardiac Catheterization Technician.
  • Thorough knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.
  • Visual acuity, manual dexterity, and accuracy necessary to perform technical duties.
  • Independent judgment and initiative when using specialized equipment and working within a complex clinical environment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Current certification as a Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES), Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), or Certified Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS).
  • Ability to take overnight and weekend call.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot X-ray, hemodynamic monitoring, imaging, and cardiovascular support equipment.
  • Support complex cardiac procedures involving intra-aortic balloon pumps, CardioHelp, Impella, TandemHeart, intracardiac echocardiography, fractional flow reserve, optical coherence tomography, power injectors, temporary pacemakers, and rotational and orbital atherectomy.
  • Assist cardiologists during invasive procedures involving catheters and stents.
  • Prepare patients and procedure sites using aseptic technique, set up sterile tables, apply sterile drapes, and pass instruments and supplies during procedures.
  • Observe patient status and monitor and record hemodynamic data throughout procedures, communicating changes to the clinical team.
  • Prepare procedure rooms, position equipment and supplies, initiate room cleaning, and prepare instruments and equipment for sterile reprocessing.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, rotate stock, and identify supplies approaching expiration.
  • Participate in quality improvement and process improvement activities to support safe, efficient operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
