About The Position

Milliken & Company is a global manufacturing leader focused on materials science. The Card Technician repairs machinery breakdowns and flagged items. If unable to repair, the technician submits a work order with detailed information. The technician completes a thorough information handoff with the previous shift's technician and checks the work order system at the beginning of each shift. The technician must wear their plant radio and carry the Card Technician smartphone at all times. Responsibilities include following safety procedures, alerting the production manager to operator absences, cycling laydowns and opening equipment to prevent stock flow interruptions, completing machine cleaning checklists on weekends, cycling all equipment during normal operation, cleaning PWS hoppers, tracking downtime, sweeping around laydowns when no stock cutter is on duty, and ensuring equipment scheduled for maintenance is run out. The technician must never defeat any safety or quality monitoring device. The card technician is authorized to shut down opening equipment for safety hazards, chokes, weight issues, repeating machine stops, suction cleaning problems, mixtures, contamination, abnormal noises or smells, bad can build, or any other quality problems. The technician patrols assigned machinery inspecting for quality problems and mechanical difficulties, corrects problems as found, responds to work orders and radio calls, and performs general upkeep. If non-conforming material is identified, the technician stops the machine, corrects the issue if possible, and notifies the production manager. The technician observes and assures correct identification of cans, coiler identification, and can build. The card technician is authorized to shut down cards for safety hazards, snowballing, repeating ends down, high nep level, suction cleaning problems, mixtures, contamination, abnormal noises or smells, bad can build, or any other quality problems. The technician patrols assigned machinery inspecting for quality problems and mechanical difficulties, corrects problems as found, responds to work orders and radio calls, and performs general upkeep. In case of sliverdata shutdown, the technician follows the prescribed procedure. If non-conforming material is identified, the technician stops the machine, corrects the problem if possible, and notifies the production manager. The technician observes that draw frames, creel cans, and delivery cans are correctly identified. The technician is authorized to shut down drawing frames for safety hazards, mixture or contamination, wrong cans in the creel, bad can build, abnormal noises or smells, repeating ends down, bad top rolls or bearings, improper or missing I.D., or any other quality problem.

Requirements

  • Must be able to identify the source of any problems and correct the problem if able.
  • Must be able to create a work order for any problem that cannot be handled by the technician.
  • Must be able to track any downtime on cards and document the reason.
  • Must be able to sweep around the laydowns twice per shift when there is no stock cutter on duty.
  • Must check the Monday maintenance schedule and make sure that all equipment scheduled for maintenance is run out for maintenance to be performed.
  • Must be able to patrol the assigned machinery inspecting for quality problems and mechanical difficulties.
  • Must be able to correct problems as found.
  • Must be able to respond to work orders and radio calls for assigned machinery.
  • Must put in work orders for all radio calls.
  • Must be able to clean, repair, and perform general upkeep in the prescribed manner.
  • Must be able to stop the machine making non-conforming material, correct the issue if possible, and notify the production manager.
  • Must be able to observe and assure correct identification of cans at each card, correct card coiler identification, and correct can build.
  • Must be able to correct issues with can identification or build if possible and/or notify the production manager.
  • Must be able to follow the prescribed procedure to resolve sliverdata shutdown problems.
  • Must be able to observe that draw frames are correctly identified, the correct number of cans are in the creel, cans are correctly identified, and delivery cans are correctly identified.
  • Must be able to correct issues with draw frame or can identification if possible and/or notify the production manager.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs machinery breakdowns and flagged items.
  • Submits work orders with machine number, department, type of breakdown, and description if unable to repair.
  • Completes a thorough information handoff with the technician from the previous shift.
  • Checks the work order system at the beginning of each shift.
  • Wears plant radio and carries Card Technician smartphone at all times.
  • Follows prescribed safety procedures.
  • Alerts production manager if any machine operator is absent in opening, carding, or drawing after shift change.
  • Cycles laydowns in the basement at the start of the shift to ensure enough bales are cut to run the shift.
  • Checks that the stock cutter has hand-leveled and cleaned all laydowns and alerts production manager of any problem.
  • Cycles opening equipment and looks for opportunities to prevent stock flow interruptions.
  • Communicates with operators all during the shift.
  • Completes weekly machine cleaning checklists as assigned by shift on weekends.
  • Cycles all equipment during normal operation.
  • Cleans MPM flaps and listens for unusual noises.
  • Identifies the source of any problems and corrects the problem if able.
  • Creates a work order for any problem that cannot be handled by the technician.
  • Cleans all PWS hoppers and puts test weight on all pans in production to check correct weighing.
  • Enters weight number into the DTM computer system.
  • Stops off any pans that are not weighing correctly and calls their manager.
  • Tracks any downtime on cards and documents the reason.
  • Sweeps around laydowns twice per shift when there is no stock cutter on duty.
  • Checks the Monday maintenance schedule and ensures all equipment scheduled for maintenance is run out.
  • Never defeats any safety or quality monitoring device.
