Capture Device Operations Engineer

Mecka•Richmond Hill, ON
•CA$135,000 - CA$155,000

About The Position

Mecka AI builds data infrastructure for robotics and embodied AI, including global systems for data capture, labeling, and hardware-enabled workflows used by AI labs and robotics companies. The Capture Device Operations Engineer ensures Mecka’s capture devices are ready to collect high-quality data wherever deployed. The role owns technical readiness and device issues, diagnosing hardware and software problems and carrying them through to verified resolution. The engineer helps make devices reliable across operators, locations, and real-world conditions. They convert hands-on troubleshooting into tools and procedures that help a growing device fleet collect useful data with less downtime. The role also supports operators and partners, works with engineering teams on product defects, and improves readiness checks using evidence from the fleet.

Requirements

  • 3–4 years of hands-on experience troubleshooting physical devices that combine hardware and software, such as embedded systems, cameras, robotics, or connected equipment.
  • Practical Linux skills, including command-line tools, logs, processes, services, filesystems, and network diagnostics.
  • Python or shell scripting skills for diagnostics, device checks, and operational automation.
  • Ability to isolate faults through repeatable tests and distinguish hardware, software, configuration, and operator issues.
  • Experience validating device behavior after a repair, configuration change, or software update.
  • Clear communication with technical and nontechnical users, including useful reproduction steps, diagnostic evidence, and instructions.
  • Ability to prioritize issues by operational impact and follow them through to a verified outcome.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting distributed device fleets, remote diagnostics, provisioning, or software updates.
  • Experience diagnosing recording problems such as dropped frames, corrupted files, synchronization errors, or incomplete transfers.
  • Experience with electronics troubleshooting, component replacement, or repair qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Own device issues from initial report through diagnosis, repair or recovery, and verification that the device is ready for use.
  • Troubleshoot cameras, connected peripherals, Linux software, storage, networking, and data transfers using logs, measurements, and physical testing.
  • Prepare and validate devices for deployment, including configuration, software updates, recording checks, and inspection after return.
  • Provide clear technical guidance to operators and partners.
  • Reproduce product defects and work with engineering teams to resolve them.
  • Write scripts and troubleshooting procedures to make common problems faster to diagnose and resolve.
  • Track recurring failures, verify corrective actions, and improve readiness checks using evidence from the fleet.
