About The Position

The Capernaum Coordinator is responsible for leading and developing the Capernaum ministry, which focuses on reaching adolescents with disabilities with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This role involves spiritual development, leadership development, resource development, direct ministry, and administrative support. The coordinator must adhere to Young Life's Statement of Faith and policies, ministering as a servant of God and proclaiming the Gospel. This position requires a deep commitment to Christian principles and a passion for reaching young people with disabilities.

  • Must sign a Statement of Faith.
  • Profess a belief in Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord.
  • Subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff.
  • Be ready, willing, and able to fulfill ministry functions.
  • Refrain from conduct and statements that detract from biblical standards.
  • Abide by all policies and practices of Young Life.

Responsibilities

  • Foster spiritual development through prayer, disciplines, fellowship, and church relationships.
  • Develop and implement a yearly personal growth plan for spiritual vitality.
  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines within a church community and the Young Life community.
  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development in partnership with the Area Director.
  • Ensure all ministry is conducted with dependence on prayer and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Partner with the local area director and committee to cast vision for reaching every kid within the defined area.
  • Develop a subcommittee to address the specific needs of teens with disabilities and their families, and to raise necessary funding.
  • Create consistent gatherings with the subcommittee and Capernaum leaders for unity, vision, and direction.
  • Create a spiritual leadership plan for Capernaum volunteer leaders and subcommittee members.
  • Recruit and train new leaders to build effective leadership teams that reflect the community.
  • Train leaders and drivers in the physical care of kids with disabilities.
  • Provide quality summer staff, work crew, and adult guests for summer camps.
  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners, and camping to other leaders.
  • Train leaders, team leaders, and committee members on effective teamwork and developing a yearly ministry strategy with the Area Director.
  • Provide leadership to the subcommittee in finding partners to support the Capernaum area vision and budget.
  • Develop a fundraising strategy for Capernaum alongside the Area Director and ensure excellent communication to donors.
  • Build the Young Life brand through public relations as a tool for working with youth in the area.
  • Conduct quality events with the Area Director that showcase Young Life's impact and warrant investment.
  • Communicate the needs and successes of the local Capernaum ministry to the area committee as directed by the Area Director.
  • Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
  • Lead or co-lead a model Young Life club.
  • Lead or co-lead an effective Campaigner ministry.
  • Develop and implement plans to maximize Gospel proclamation through camping opportunities.
  • Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life property, camp, or in another position as requested.
  • Develop relationships with school administration, parents, and school aides to gain access to kids with disabilities.
  • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures, maintaining professionalism in office hours, dress, conduct, and time management.
  • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders, and donors for area records.
  • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate, and professional communication to all involved in ministry.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience, and area needs.
  • Accept both short and long-term assignments of projects.
  • Meet weekly with supervisor.
  • Participate in additional training or experiences as deemed necessary.
  • Attend regional training as directed by the regional director.
  • Participate in programs designed for personal spiritual maturity or personal enrichment.
  • Pursue seminars designed to enhance professional skills.
  • Receive the same mission-wide training as equivalent traditional staff.
