About The Position

CoxHealth is seeking a Capacity Management Coordinator to manage patient flow within the hospital and to and from outside sources. This role is crucial for driving patient throughput by facilitating bed placement for admissions, discharges, and transfers. The Coordinator will mitigate discharge barriers by collaborating with nursing staff, case management, and support departments. They will also set capacity targets based on staffing, anticipated boarders, and projected bed needs. Additionally, the position involves collecting clinical information for transfer requests, facilitating transfers by matching patient needs with facility capacity and services, and fostering relationships with referring facilities, physicians, and hospital staff. The Coordinator will work closely with each facility to identify, trend, and report barriers to patient throughput. This role is part of the innovative Virtual Nursing Command Center, utilizing advanced technology to support bedside RNs, monitor patient vital signs, assist with admissions and discharges, and collaborate with virtual physicians, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and the Early Intervention Team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (for Medic)
  • Current Missouri licensure as E.M.T.- P (for Medic)
  • BLS must be obtained within 90 days (for Medic)
  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program (for LPN)
  • LPN License active in the state of Missouri (for LPN)
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy (for RRT)
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner License active in the state of Missouri (for RRT)
  • BLS must be obtained within 90 days (for RRT)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (for RRT)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and multitasking
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and critical thinking
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Ability to efficiently use the electronic medical record
  • Excellent customer service skills

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of clinical experience and at least one year of experience in Emergency Services, Case Management, Pre-Hospital, Flight Nursing, or a Transfer Center (for Medic)
  • Five years of clinical experience and at least one year of experience in Emergency Services, Case Management, Pre-Hospital, Flight Nursing, or a Transfer Center (for LPN)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy (for RRT)
  • Five years of critical care experience as a Respiratory Therapist (for RRT)
  • RRT-ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialist) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (for RRT)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for patient flow within the hospital and to and from outside sources.
  • Driving patient throughput by facilitating bed placement for patients designated for admission, discharge, and transfer.
  • Mitigating barriers to discharge by working with nursing staff, case management, and support departments.
  • Setting capacity targets based on staffing, anticipated boarders, and projected bed needs.
  • Collecting clinical information relative to a transfer request and facilitating the transfer by matching the patient’s clinical needs to the facility with bed capacity and service capability.
  • Collaborating with multiple departments within each hospital to foster relationships with referring facilities, physicians, and hospital staff.
  • Identifying, trending, and reporting barriers to patient throughput in collaboration with each facility.
  • Supporting bedside RNs with tasks to lighten their workload.
  • Monitoring patient’s vital signs.
  • Assisting with admissions and discharges.
  • Collaborating with virtual physicians, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and the Early Intervention Team.
