About The Position

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the supervisor supports the day-to-day operational oversight of the UCI Health System Capacity Command Center that houses Transfer Center, Bed Placement Coordinators, and Transport. The supervisor is directly responsible for overseeing both clinical and non-clinical teams, ensuring adherence to policies, facilitating timely and safe interfacility and intra-location patient transfers, and overseeing patient flow operations at the facility level as it relates to bed placement. The supervisor manages staffing, performance monitoring, workflow management, payroll, scheduling, and frontline issue resolution. This role supports data collection, monitors KPIs, and participates in quality improvement initiatives under the guidance of the Nurse Manager and ensures that the Transfer Center and Capacity Management maintain regulatory, patient safety, and institutional standards. Collaborates with ambulance vendors and transport to ensure the timely movement of patients within the system. This role requires travel to community network sites to provide operational oversight, support staff, and ensure consistency in workflows, processes, and operational practices across locations.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of hospital operations, patient flow, and clinical processes.
  • Strong customer service orientation as well as written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze data, review trends and activities, and make recommendations for improvement
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills
  • Must be fully versed in EMTALA and all regulatory requirements, including CMS, state and local regulations
  • Experience working in a transfer center or patient placement setting
  • Demonstrated experience working in an acute care setting
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Bachelor of Science, Nursing
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
  • Ability to be successful in a self-directed, self-motivated, fast-paced environment with changing deadlines and priorities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel between all facilities within the health system
  • Registered Nurse

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience managing a Transfer Center or Capacity Command Center
  • Prior experience as a nurse case manager or house supervisor
  • Master of Science in Nursing or similar graduate degree
