The Capability Acquisition Engineer supports the acquisition, installation, commissioning, and production readiness of manufacturing equipment for Rolls-Royce’s Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) industrialization program in Indianapolis. Working under the guidance of senior Capability Acquisition Engineers, the role participates in the equipment acquisition lifecycle—from defining manufacturing and equipment requirements and selecting suppliers through design reviews, manufacture, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), installation, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, qualification, and handover into production. The engineer takes increasing ownership of defined equipment packages and project activities as experience develops. The role executes manufacturing engineering activities to identify required capability and develop Statements of Requirements, functional specifications, and machine validation plans. It also supports maintenance and training plans to keep equipment at baseline and helps ensure acquired technology meets continuing business and customer requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate, and lead time. The engineer collaborates with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Facilities, Maintenance, Quality, HSE/EHS, Procurement, IT, equipment suppliers, and other specialists to deliver equipment safely and effectively. The position is onsite in Indianapolis, Indiana, and requires willingness to travel to suppliers and work hands-on with equipment during installation, commissioning, and qualification.
