About The Position

The Campus Transportation Manager is responsible for providing safe transportation for up to 1,000 students daily while reducing operational costs. This role involves managing a team of up to 20 people and collaborating with campus leaders to achieve success.

Requirements

  • GED or High School Diploma
  • Experience in the operation of large passenger vehicles, or an equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Ability to manage student behavior
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with class P (passenger) and S (school bus) endorsements
  • Completed bus driver safety training course
  • Must be over 21 years old
  • Pass alcohol and drug tests
  • DOT Physical Examination

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe transportation of all students with a goal of zero preventable incidents/accidents.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the dispatch office, monitoring two-way radios to address bus problems, lateness, and accidents.
  • Respond to driver accidents, conduct internal investigations, gather information, take photos, assist students and staff, and obtain accident reports from law enforcement.
  • Receive and respond to emergency calls after hours and on weekends.
  • Maintain an efficient operation with a Cost Per Mile below $3.70.
  • Develop driver schedules to ensure drivers fulfill their primary role while on the clock.
  • Continuously audit team participation to ensure systems are not abused.
  • Monitor preventive maintenance to avoid costly repairs.
  • Serve as a substitute Bus Driver when needed.
  • Create a work environment that fosters team member retention, aiming for a minimum of 85% transportation staff retention.
  • Screen employees to ensure qualified, quality, and dedicated individuals are hired, and ensure employees understand expectations and work conditions before hiring.
  • Maintain the fleet in safe operating condition, achieving a 7% savings on maintenance costs over the previous year.
  • Ensure maintenance supplies are not over-purchased and that preventive maintenance (PMs) are done in a systematic order.
  • Utilize Transfinder to create and update campus-level routes, ensuring all routes are up-to-date and do not exceed rated capacity by more than 10%.
  • Keep driver and student records up-to-date in Route Finder.
  • Utilize Synovia to analyze reports, including Planned vs. Actual Routes, and track bus arrival times.
  • Generate and analyze reports on the fleet's overall activity, including stop-by-stop data on driver and bus performance.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Communicate with school site staff, administrators, parents, and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities, and resolve issues related to transportation services, student behavior, and special accommodations.
