About The Position

The Campus Transportation Manager is responsible for providing safe transportation for up to 1,000 students daily while reducing operational costs. This role involves managing a team of up to 20 people and collaborating with campus leaders to ensure success. The primary focus is the safe transportation of all students, aiming for zero preventable incidents/accidents. The manager will oversee daily operations, respond to emergencies, manage fleet maintenance, and ensure compliance with schedules and regulations. Excellent customer service and communication with stakeholders are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • GED or High School Diploma
  • Experience in the operation of large passenger vehicles; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Ability to manage student behavior
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with class P (passenger) and S (school bus) endorsements
  • Completed bus driver safety training course
  • Must be over 21 years old
  • Pass alcohol and drug tests
  • Pass DOT Physical Examination
  • Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe transportation of all students with a goal of zero preventable incidents/accidents.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the dispatch office, monitoring radios to address bus problems, lateness, and accidents.
  • Receive and respond to driver accidents, conduct internal investigations, gather information, and assist as needed.
  • Respond to emergency calls after hours and on weekends.
  • Maintain an efficient operation with a Cost Per Mile below $3.70.
  • Develop driver schedules to ensure primary driving roles are fulfilled while on the clock.
  • Continuously audit team participation to prevent system abuse.
  • Monitor preventive maintenance to avoid costly repairs.
  • Serve as a substitute Bus Driver when needed.
  • Create a work environment with a minimum of 85% transportation staff retention.
  • Screen employees to ensure qualified, quality, and dedicated individuals are hired.
  • Ensure employees understand expectations and work conditions before being hired.
  • Maintain the fleet in safe operating condition with a 7% savings on maintenance cost over the previous year.
  • Ensure maintenance supplies are not over-purchased.
  • Ensure PMs are done in a systematic order.
  • Utilize Transfinder to create/update campus-level routes, ensuring no route exceeds 10% of its rated capacity.
  • Keep driver and student records up-to-date in Route Finder.
  • Utilize Synovia to analyze reports, comparing planned vs. actual routes and analyzing fleet activity.
  • Communicate with school site staff, administrators, parents, and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities, and resolve issues related to transportation services, student behavior, and special accommodations.
