About The Position

The Campus Safety Officer assists the Principal in maintaining a safe school environment for students and staff. This role involves patrolling common areas, supervising student conduct, enforcing district policies, and responding to safety and security concerns on campus. The officer will also provide assistance to students, staff, and visitors, conduct safety inspections, and manage access to school property. This is a 9-month contract, hourly/non-exempt position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License (Class D)
  • Must be able to obtain an IVP Fingerprint Card through DPS
  • Two years of experience working with youth, law enforcement, or related field
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills
  • Must be United States citizen or have valid work visa at date of hire with the ability to maintain.
  • Proof of Mumps, Measles and Rubella, (MMR) vaccination.
  • Valid government issued identification or current work visa with expiration.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with and maintain open communication with the Principal or Designee to provide a safe and positive student and staff environment.
  • Uphold district policy and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Patrol all common areas (e.g., lunch area, classrooms, hallways, walkways, parking lots, athletic fields, etc.) to ensure students comply with established regulations for maintaining a safe and positive learning environment on campus.
  • Supervise student conduct and diffuse any physical or verbal altercations to maintain safety at all times.
  • Report undisciplined students to proper authority and complete required documentation.
  • Patrol school grounds to detect and/or require correction of unauthorized and improperly parked vehicles.
  • Provide assistance to students, staff, and visitors regarding information, emergency conditions, traffic and parking control, and when appropriate, “crowd control” at special events.
  • Conduct inspections of doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are in a safe and operable condition, and report anomalies to supervisor.
  • Operate golf carts and other motorized vehicles.
  • Monitor student IDs to ensure that only students with valid IDs are on campus and that students do not leave campus without authorization.
  • Monitor, address, and apprehend the exit of all unauthorized persons on or within school property.
  • Notify the administrator, SRO, and Senior Campus Safety Officer if unauthorized persons are on the property.
  • Assist school staff with inappropriate student behavior.
  • Escort students from class to the office when needed.
  • Prevent loitering and deter vandalism on campus.
  • Escort campus visitors.
  • Report to supervisor any unusual conditions or noticeable fire hazards or malfunctions of heating, plumbing, or electrical systems.
  • Sound alarm or call 911 in case of fire or other emergencies according to emergency procedures.
  • Assist with lockdown drills, fire drills, and other school safety procedures to ensure a safe campus.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and professionalism.
  • Establish and maintain a good rapport with staff, students, and the community.
  • Participate in mandatory district/local in-service training.
  • Prepare daily written reports regarding shift activities.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the Site Principal may assign.
