JOB PURPOSE: Reporting to the Director of Campus Life, the Campus Life Orientation Intern serves as a member of the Student Affairs Campus Life team, supporting and overseeing the orientation program through the planning and facilitation of ongoing programming for Pomona College students while also assisting with general campus-wide initiatives and events that enhance engagement across the broader campus community.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Education, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize Engage or similar campus engagement software.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a student development philosophy and the educational mission of higher education.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Understanding of the cultural, social, and recreational needs of a diverse campus community.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive and engaging environment that supports student involvement and success.
  • Values and practices that are supportive of and compatible with the mission and principles of a liberal arts institution.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in student activities, student engagement, leadership development, or a related area is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the overall training of the orientation teams (leadership, communication, and programming skills)
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of new student orientation programs (summer and/or fall)
  • Support orientation events, workshops, and activities, including logistics, setup, and breakdown
  • Serve as a welcoming resource for new students and families, answering questions and providing guidance
  • Help train and support orientation leaders and student volunteers
  • Assist with communication efforts, including emails, schedules, and orientation materials
  • Collaborate with campus partners (Residence Life, Academic Advising, Student Life, etc.)
  • Provide on-site support during orientation days, including evenings and occasional weekends
  • Assist with assessment efforts such as surveys, attendance tracking, and feedback collection
  • Perform other administrative or project-based tasks as assigned

Benefits

  • The hourly rate for this role is $20.00 per hour.
