The Campus Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) administers, coordinates, and executes the operational elements of the University’s chemical hygiene plan, laboratory chemical safety, hazardous materials and hazardous waste management and emergency response programs. Operating under the strategic leadership and oversight of the Associate Director of EHS, the position exercises independent professional judgment in evaluating chemical hazards and lab operations; developing, implementing, and monitoring risk-based controls; conducting inspections and coordinating corrective actions; and providing technical guidance to protect employees, students, property, the environment, and the public. The position monitors these programs for conformance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, standards, and University requirements; coordinates assigned personnel and projects; provides field supervision as assigned; and performs other duties as assigned. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
