About The Position

Dell Medical School is seeking four Campus Behavioral Health Navigators. This position has an end date of 08/31/27 but may be renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals. The Campus Behavioral Health Navigator supports access to behavioral health services for students and families by coordinating school‑based and virtual care activities, facilitating tele behavioral health appointments, and navigating patients through intake, referral, and follow‑up processes. This role serves as the primary non‑clinical point of contact between the health system and participating schools, ensuring operational alignment, documentation accuracy, and compliance with HIPAA, program standards, and applicable school district policies. The Navigator works closely with behavioral health clinicians, care coordinators, program leadership, school administrators, and families to reduce barriers to care, support engagement in virtual behavioral health services (e.g., TCHATT), and promote continuity of care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health–related, social services, education, public health, psychology, human services, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of applicable experience in healthcare support, behavioral health services, patient navigation, care coordination, school‑based programming, or community‑based services.
  • Proficiency in electronic systems including but not limited to Google Suite, Trayt, Athena or Epic, Calendly.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, confidentiality, and privacy standards in healthcare and school‑adjacent environments.
  • Awareness of ethical boundaries in non‑clinical support roles.
  • Escalates concerns appropriately and transparently.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency.
  • Experience supporting healthcare payer or provider operational workflows, such as provider order entry, referral processing, eligibility verification, or visit preparation.
  • Prior experience working in a school‑based or educational environment, including coordination with educators, administrators, or campus support staff.
  • Working knowledge of medical and behavioral health terminology; familiarity with medical coding concepts or encounter documentation processes preferred.
  • Experience navigating inter‑organizational coordination, such as collaboration between healthcare systems, schools, or community partners.
  • Certified Community Health Worker (CCHW) Behavioral Health Navigator or Care Coordination certification
  • CPR/BLS (if patient-facing duties require)

Responsibilities

  • Travels to schools within the designated service area to support student participation in virtual behavioral health appointments.
  • Provides basic telehealth technology setup and troubleshooting in coordination with school staff.
  • Facilitates guardian participation as required and coordinates student availability with school personnel.
  • Ensures adherence to HIPAA, program requirements, and school district policies.
  • Adjusts travel and on‑site support based on clinical volume and academic calendars.
  • Acts as the primary non‑clinical point of contact for schools hosting on‑site services.
  • Coordinates scheduling and logistical needs with school administrators and support staff.
  • Builds and maintains productive working relationships with participating schools.
  • Communicates program workflows, requirements, and updates clearly and professionally.
  • Gathers required demographic and consent documentation to establish patient charts in the electronic health record.
  • Assists with intake workflows, referral coordination, and discharge support under established protocols.
  • Supports families via phone, email, or other approved methods when assistance is needed with forms, access, or language barriers.
  • Ensures timely, accurate documentation of protected health information in compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Assists with scheduling, rescheduling, and appointment confirmation for virtual behavioral health visits.
  • Collaborates with care coordinators, supervisors, and clinicians to prevent scheduling conflicts.
  • Communicates appointment details accurately to families and school partners.
  • Escalates issues that may impact access or continuity of care.
  • Provides cross‑coverage for related school‑based behavioral health initiatives (e.g., YAM) as assigned.
  • Participates in school‑based outreach or engagement events as needed.
  • Reinforces awareness of behavioral health resources and care pathways.
  • Reports concerns, barriers, or operational issues to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Assists in identifying solutions to non‑clinical issues affecting patient care or program delivery.
  • Participates in team meetings, training, and quality improvement activities.
  • Assists with onboarding or informal training of new program staff or temporary coverage roles.
  • Supports special projects related to school‑based or tele behavioral health services.
  • Participates in continuing education or compliance training as required.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.

  • Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
