About The Position

Co-Director of Camp Whitehall, performs routine and complex administration and supervisory work in planning, organizing, coordination, administering, and supervising activities in a day camp environment. Supervises (6) counselors in daily tasks and duties.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four (4 yr.) college or university with a bachelor's degree in education or closely related field.
  • Two (2 yr.) related camp experience; or Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Considerable knowledge of special events planning and administration; considerable knowledge of the equipment and techniques used in a day camp environment;
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment;
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a day camp environment program;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with camp leaders, supervisors, camp leaders, supervisors, camp participants, and the public;
  • Possess current first aid and CPR certifications.
  • Valid state driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; plans and organizes workloads and leader assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff; reviews progress and direct changes as needed.
  • Provides leadership and direction in the development of short- and long-range plans; gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinates camp activities with Camp Counselors.
  • Prepares daily attendance sheets and contacts campers daily.
  • Coordinates (2) field trips in conjunction with Brandon.
  • Creates daily schedule of activities and plans entire (7) week camp session with Camp Counselors.
  • Directs Camp Counselors on preparation of a weekly news article from each camp outlining the highlights of the previous weeks' activities, field trips, and the weeks' activities coming up.
  • Assures own arrival at camp 30 minutes before beginning of the day and remains the entire day.
  • Ensures Hokey Pavilion is licked and secured daily.
  • Develops flyers, memos, etc. for distribution to campers within two (2) days of special requests (field trips, theme days, or craft activity that requires material brought from home.)
  • Sends weekly email to all campers on Sunday for the upcoming weeks to highlight the upcoming camp week's activities.
  • Handles the collection of payments each Monday and writes receipts to give to the Bureau Chief.
  • Communicate with parents on various problems with campers.
  • Coordinates swimming lessons with the Aquatic Director.
  • Attempts to be available for camp leader interviews.
  • Coordinates with Camp Counselors to order the materials, equipment, and instruction needs for each event and/or field trip.
