About The Position

The JCC Ranch Camp is seeking a Camp Nurse to play a vital role in supporting the health and wellness of campers (ages 6 – 17) during their time at camp. This is a seasonal position where staff members become part of a community and have the chance to create a safe and fun environment for campers. The role involves overseeing the health and safety of campers by managing medical supplies, providing first aid, ensuring proper documentation of incidents, administering medications, and supervising the clinic operations. The Camp Nurse will also work with camp leadership to support the wellness of both staff and campers throughout the camp session.

Requirements

  • Licensed MD, RN or NP in the State of Colorado, or compact licensure
  • Two years' experience in licensed role
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to transport campers using company vehicles as needed
  • Experience working in a rural camp environment
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications
  • Ability to train and delegate staff in Medication Administration
  • Satisfactorily fulfill requirements for employment at the Staenberg-Loup JCC, including: background screening, three references, documentation, and compliance with CDHS law.
  • Must be high-energy, enthusiastic, creative, and open-minded!

Nice To Haves

  • Prior supervisory experience of other licensed/qualified individuals
  • At least 1 year of verifiable experience working with children

Responsibilities

  • Manage the 24/7 Health Clinic at residential summer camp for campers 6 – 17, acting as the Camp Clinic Manager on duty when the manager is not present.
  • Supervise medication intake and return on camp arrival/departure days.
  • Supervise health screens on all arriving campers.
  • Supervise clinic assistant and additional clinic nurse.
  • Provide care as needed to campers including first aid, CPR, and medication administration.
  • Portion out regularly taken medications for campers for each mealtime and other times that require medication administration.
  • Communicate with parents and caregivers about camper health as needed in conjunction with the camper care team.
  • Ensure medication storage and medical facilities are compliant with Colorado Licensing and Health Department Regulations.
  • Act as a resource to staff members in supporting their own physical and emotional wellness.
  • Drive UTV to events in outer property.
  • Contribute to and participate in all activities at camp including swimming.
  • Manage camper behaviors using positive behavior management techniques, enforcing appropriate safety policies, emergency procedures, and camp rules.
  • Participate in formal performance evaluations with Camp Director throughout the summer.
  • Take care of staff and campers by prioritizing physical, social, emotional health, safety, and well-being.
  • Work as a team with the supervisory team to ensure smooth daily operations by participating in all camp programming and supporting camp life.
  • Create an inclusive community for staff and campers.
  • Participate in camp activities such as riding horses, swimming, camping, playing games, singing songs, and roasting s'mores.
  • Act as a resource and support staff in managing the physical and emotional health and wellness of campers.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to changing situations at camp.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, such as creating special camp events.
