About The Position

A member of the Camp Medical Team is responsible for ensuring the health and wellness of campers and staff at Camp Whispering Pines. This role includes operating the infirmary, administering medications, supervising camp sanitation and safety, and serving as a resource for physical and mental health support, and documentation of all medical incidents. A member of the Camp Medical Team will live on site during the camp season, providing care and leadership in a communal outdoor setting on Mount Lemmon. Please note: our camp is located at a high elevation in rugged terrain; the ability to successfully live at altitude and navigate this environment is required.

Requirements

  • Registered NP, MD, RN, LPN, or EMT, licensed in the state of Arizona.
  • Emotional maturity and the ability to remain calm, professional, and effective in emergencies.
  • Strong knowledge of safe medication storage, handling, and administration.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide both physical and mental health resources to campers and staff.
  • Model professionalism at all times; including using camp resources wisely, being timely, and maintaining quality communication with camp staff, caregivers, and especially campers.
  • Be prepared to adjust and adapt schedule or plans quickly to meet the needs of campers.
  • Treat all campers, staff, and stakeholders with fairness and equity regardless of circumstances, background, or ability.
  • All employees and interns are expected to actively support and promote the Council’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and community connection, while contributing to the mission of serving girls.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the infirmary in a safe, efficient, and professional manner, adhering to camp care procedures and standing orders.
  • Dispense camper and staff medications in accordance with standing physician orders, ensuring timeliness and proper documentation.
  • Conduct health screenings for all campers and staff, at the beginning of sessions and as needed.
  • Monitor and promote sanitation, hygiene, and safety across camp, meeting or exceeding local, ACA, and GSUSA standards.
  • Build and maintain first aid kits for units, dining hall, kitchen, vehicles, and other designated camp areas; train staff in their proper use.
  • Provide immediate and appropriate response to illnesses, accidents, or emergencies, and ensure timely and comprehensive documentation of incidents.
  • Elevate incidents immediately to emergency services and/or Camp Doctor on-call, as needed.
  • Communicate with caregivers as necessary regarding significant health concerns.
  • Ensure supervision and safe storage of medications, equipment, and supplies.
  • Communicate as needed with caregivers and Camp Directors regarding questions surrounding camper health or camper health profiles.
  • Review Emergency Care Procedures upon arrival at Camp Whispering Pines, return to procedure binder often to ensure accordance with guidelines.
  • Serve as a health resource and provide mental health support and resources as needed for campers and staff, within scope of training.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to health care, incidents, and treatment provided.
  • Attend administrative staff meetings, all-camp staff meetings, and meet periodically with Unit Leaders regarding camper health.
  • Partner with the Camp Director to ensure safety, wellness, and open communication with caregivers.
  • Support and promote the mission of Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona, fostering a safe, inclusive, and empowering camp environment.
  • Ensure health, safety, and well-being standards are maintained; oversee unit housekeeping, sanitation, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain unit records and required camp documentation regarding campers and assigned unit staff.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with the Council’s Safety and Risk Management Plan.
  • Prioritize the safety and well-being of campers, coworkers, and self in all activities.
  • Engage in a culture of learning and growth by giving and receiving feedback respectfully.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to best serve the mission of Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona.
