About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Camp Facilities Manager for Camp Ponderosa in Heber, Arizona. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with a stipend offered for local housing until onsite housing is available. The position requires the employee to accept on-site housing as a condition of employment, located on Salvation Army owned property where the employee works. The employee will be required to sign an on-site housing agreement. The Salvation Army's mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Ability to assess, repair, and improve camp property.
  • Ability to ensure the quality of camp facilities as they age.
  • Must be able to coordinate employees and delegate tasks.
  • Must be willing to do any task that they assign to others.
  • Ability to oversee both housekeeping and maintenance departments.
  • Ability to set housekeeping and maintenance staff up for success without micro-managing.
  • Ability to assess and address plumbing, electrical, structural, and aesthetic issues that arise.
  • Must be able to determine what issues can be done in-house and where we need professional help.
  • Must be willing and able to work patiently alongside young summer staff members.
  • Able to demonstrate respect and sensitivity towards diverse populations.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must have a valid AZ driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass The Salvation Army fleet safety e-learning module.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
  • Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Relatable experience may substitute for education (2:1 ratio).
  • Experience in managing a large, multi-building facility is preferred.
  • 5 years of camp experience and 10 years of facilities experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Take a lead stewardship role over all camp facilities, vehicles, equipment, and grounds.
  • Create and execute repair plans for aging facilities.
  • Be continually aware of opportunities to get ahead of facility decay.
  • Work with the Camp Director to execute large-scale facility plans.
  • Lead summer camp facilities crew when applicable.
  • Oversee camp facilities with minimal guidance, while still keeping the Camp Director informed.
  • Bring large-scale or costly issues to the attention of the Camp Director as necessary.
  • Coordinate the use and functionality of Camp vehicles.
  • Ensure that the maintenance yard is clean and organized.
  • Assist in managing facilities budgets.
  • Assist in the planning, coordinating, and execution of special projects as requested by TSA leaders.
  • Work with Camp Director to cast vision for new facilities, upgrades, and recreation offerings.
  • Play a main role in the execution of new facilities, upgrades, and recreation offerings.
  • Other duties that pertain to facilities management.
  • Assist Camp Director in any other duties as requested to maintain a consistently high level of efficiency in camp operation.
  • Develop and maintain a high standard of functionality and esthetic quality for Camp Ponderosa.
  • Be constantly aware of opportunities to engage in preventative maintenance.
  • Lead maintenance staff; appropriately delegating tasks and allowing room for some autonomy in their work.
  • Communicate with maintenance staff, drawing on their experiences and insights.
  • Answer maintenance calls as needed by guests and coordinate repairs accordingly.
  • Ensure that grass length is maintained around buildings and on grass fields.
  • Ensure that weeds are not overgrown around paths, roads, and buildings.
  • Ensure that camp trails are maintained.
  • Assess trees on camp, removing branches and trees that threaten camp safety and functionality.
  • Manage dry brush and forest litter with the intention of significantly reducing the risk of fire spread.
  • Ensure that the general landscape of camp is aesthetically pleasing and clean.
  • Be willing to address pressing repairs at any point while on-site, potentially on nights and weekends.
  • Develop and maintain a high standard of sanitation and cleanliness for Camp Ponderosa.
  • Schedule and direct housekeeping staff.
  • Ensure that all guests are met with completely reset and clean facilities.
  • Ensure that the camp maintains a high level of cleanliness while guests are on site.
  • Coordinate and maintain our stock of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and paper goods.
  • Coordinate the upgrade of housekeeping systems and processes wherever possible and beneficial.
  • Patiently work alongside our summer staff to ensure they are treating facilities well and keeping their spaces clean.
  • Coordinate and lead camp clean up with summer staff on every last day of camp.
  • Participate in cleaning responsibilities wherever needed / applicable.
  • Any other tasks that pertain to the proper sanitation and cleanliness of Camp Ponderosa.
