Camp Counselor

About The Position

The Camp Counselor supports the camp lead counselor under the direction of the Youth Development Director. The role assists with carrying out program activities and supervising campers, providing children with guidance, safety, leadership, education, and an enjoyable camp experience. The counselor helps ensure camp programs operate smoothly and provide a high level of service to participants, while also supporting the YMCA and its community as needed.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Experience working with children in a structured setting.
Must have or be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification, as well as any other certifications required for the position.
Exemplify YMCA ideals and leadership qualities.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, solve problems, and manage time effectively.
Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality.
Pass required pre-employment checks, including criminal background and drug screening; the posting also specifies a motor vehicle record (MVR) and reference check according to company policy, and a BFTS background check.
Obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment and maintain it throughout employment.
Be legally eligible to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Provide guidance, safety, leadership, education, and enjoyment for children served by camp.
Carry out daily program tasks related to the position's scope and responsibilities.
Stay updated on current issues regarding camp programs.
Promote, monitor, and evaluate camp programs, and help ensure they run smoothly with a high level of service to participants.
Maintain branch and association certifications in CPR, Metro Atlanta YMCA New Staff Orientation, branch emergency procedures, and other required certifications or training.
Assist as needed in all aspects of the YMCA and its community.
Maintain and report incident and accident paperwork.
