About The Position

The Camp Cook / Housekeeper is responsible for coordinating food supply orders, preparing meals for camp personnel, and managing food inventory to ensure efficient use of resources and minimize waste. This position also performs light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, safe, and organized camp environment. The successful candidate must be willing to work flexible schedules, including day or night shifts, based on operational needs. This is a temporary position.

Requirements

  • Ability to safely handle and work with industrial cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety and sanitation standards.
  • Knowledge of proper food handling, sanitation, and cleaning procedures.
  • Knowledge of the requirements and skills necessary to safely plan and prepare meals for remote camp operations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing work accurately and efficiently.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including assignments in remote Alaska locations.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as a camp cook in remote Alaska locations or equivalent experience as a commercial cook required.
  • Current Alaska Food Workers card or ability to obtain one before starting work required.
  • Ability to pass a drug and background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous housekeeping experience in a camp setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan camp meals and submit grocery and supply requirements to the central office in a timely manner to support purchasing and shipping needs.
  • Develop weekly meal plans and maintain meal budgets.
  • Manage dry goods and perishable food inventory levels necessary for daily meal preparation and camp operations.
  • Prepare and assist with daily meal preparation for camp personnel.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dining areas, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and properly storing unused food after meals.
  • Check employees in and out of camp facilities as needed.
  • Maintain food storage and camp provisions in a manner that minimizes exposure to bears and other wildlife and supports camp safety.
  • Coordinate meal schedules and maintain accurate food inventory records.
  • Maintain clean, sanitary, and orderly camp facilities and common areas.
  • Remove and dispose of trash and waste materials regularly.
  • Vacuum, sweep, and mop designated areas as needed.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms daily, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and related fixtures.
  • Dust and polish surfaces, furniture, and light fixtures.
  • Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment as necessary to clean surrounding areas.
  • Remove stains from rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using appropriate cleaning chemicals and solutions.
  • Monitor camp facilities for damage or maintenance concerns and report issues promptly to the Project Superintendent.
  • Perform all work in a safe manner and maintain constant awareness of surroundings and potential hazards.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of camp and project operations.
