About The Position

Advanced Pediatrics is seeking an experienced Pediatric Telephone Triage Nurse to work in our growing pediatric practice, located in Vienna, VA. This is not a remote position. If you are a self-motivated nurse and love working with children and their parents, then we would love to talk to you. We are looking for long-term employees to become part of our work family. Minimum of 1 year pediatrics experience is required. Must be a bright and motivated applicant who has experience working with children. Must be courteous, self-motivated and able to use critical thinking, in a fast-paced environment. You must be proficient typing at least 30 WPM and able to learn our EHR system.

Requirements

  • BLS Certification (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and responds to the nurse phone line.
  • Talks directly to patients on the telephone/computer and schedules appointments accordingly or directs them to emergency rooms (ERs), urgent care centers or offers home care advice.
  • Determines urgency of seeing the patient, based on brief assessment and on familiarity with a patient’s condition and history.
  • Uses written/computerized clinical decision making including algorithms that closely imitate provider logic and thought patterns, as guide.
  • Provides appropriate home health advice to patients and their parents if appointment is not recommended.
  • Ensures accurate notes of all contacts, correspondence and treatments are documented in the patients’ record via EHR.
  • Calls in prescription refills, initiates referrals and completes forms as needed for continuity of care.
  • Consults with providers as needed.
  • Acts, when designated, in “Ask a Nurse” capacity, handling routine information requests from patients, e.g., “Do I need a flu shot every year? When are you performing COVID testing?”
  • Serve as a clinical resource and professional role model for other nursing staff.
  • Prioritizes work tasks and services and completes tasks in a timely manner.
  • Provides patient education regarding disease processes, therapies, feeding and healthful behaviors.
  • Communicates appropriately and tactfully, with staff, consultants, patients, significant others, and the community.
  • Reduce conflict and increase patient satisfaction whenever possible through timely response to calls and tasks.
  • Participates in staff meetings, planning, in-service, and other meetings.
  • Additional duties as needed including helping clinical floor staff if needed for fill in.
