About The Position

The Calibration Technician will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of measuring and control instruments within the production environment.

Requirements

  • Expertise on fundamental operating principles of industrial process instrumentation and systems.
  • Knowledge in ISA standards and practices for instrumentation.
  • Knowledge in PID control theories and techniques.
  • Knowledge in relay ladder logic and programmable controllers.
  • Proficient knowledge of computer-aided manufacturing automation.
  • Proficiently read and interpret engineering documents and to produce shop schematics.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least two years of progressive experience in manufacturing process control instrumentation or closely related jobs with a proven performance record highly desirable.
  • Completion of an Instrumentation or Industrial Electronic (2-year curriculum at a technical school, or an AA/AS Degree in a related science or engineering major plus substantial relevant on-the-job training a plus.

  • At least two years of progressive experience in manufacturing process control instrumentation or closely related jobs with a proven performance record highly desirable.
  • Completion of an Instrumentation or Industrial Electronic (2-year curriculum at a technical school, or an AA/AS Degree in a related science or engineering major plus substantial relevant on-the-job training a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plans sequence of testing and calibration program for measuring and control instruments according to blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and other specifications.
  • Provides for long-range as well as short-range planning, including regular analysis of backlog work relative to available resources.
  • Examines jobs to be done and determines scope and best way to accomplish the work, consulting with requesters or maintenance team leaders when necessary.
  • Identifies and obtains required materials, entering material needs on the work order and verifying availability with stores.
  • Maintains close contact with other planners to ensure coordination of complex multi-skill field and shop jobs.
  • Obtains blueprints, drawings, instructional manuals and special procedures, and makes any additional sketches or diagrams necessary to clarify the intent of the work order.
  • Assures that work requested is needed, referring work orders to the maintenance team leader if the need is questioned and not readily resolved.
  • Verifies the availability of parts, materials, and special tools required for job execution prior to scheduling.
  • Recommends devices to be included in preventive maintenance programs.
  • Schedules preventive maintenance and other planned work in coordination with production and maintenance team leaders.
  • Issues approved schedules together with relevant work orders and other planning documents to the Operations Support Team Leader.
  • Maintains a list of planned work orders requiring equipment downtime for potential use during unscheduled downtime.
  • Collects and organizes technical data from equipment manufacturers, users, and engineering personnel.
  • Assists with identification, purchase, and organization of spare parts.
  • Trains technicians and operation personnel.
  • Confers with engineers, team leaders, and other technical workers to assist with equipment installation, maintenance, and repair techniques.
  • Reviews work orders requiring engineering design with engineering.
  • Organizes and completes assigned work.
  • Represents instrumentation area interests at interdepartmental meetings and suggests training programs.
  • Communicates daily activities with management, peers, and customers across all shifts.
  • Keeps the maintenance manager informed of abnormal or critical situations and seeks advice when necessary.
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance of test apparatus and peripheral equipment.
  • Makes recommendations for system improvement.
  • Works with a wide variety of pneumatic, electronic and microcomputer instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, level, motion, force, and chemical composition.
  • Analyzes and converts test data, using mathematical formulas, and reports results and proposed modifications.
  • Sets up test equipment and conducts tests on performance and reliability of mechanical, structural, or electromechanical equipment.
  • Consults with and advises process operators.
  • Performs risk assessments.
  • Ensures safety needs are given a top priority in work planning and scheduling.
  • Recommends additions to storeroom stock.
  • Performs other tasks and special assignments as requested by the maintenance supervisor.
  • Maintains calibration standards and certificates.
  • Maintains necessary records and files.
  • Manages Out of Tolerance documentation.
  • Periodically performs electronics data retrieval from Electronic Recorders for internal and external audits.
  • Maintains and administers EtQ database.
  • Maintains NIST certificates for all Standards used in the Plant.
  • Routinely updates SOPs for accuracy.
