About The Position

General Motors is seeking an engineer to develop robust engine calibration solutions across vehicles, embedded software, control algorithms, and engine hardware. The role supports calibrations for internal combustion engine and PHEV applications that meet customer, performance, emissions, regulatory, and program requirements. The engineer supports the Lead Calibrator and Diagnostic Strategist and collaborates with Vehicle Calibration, Engine Controls, software, hardware, emissions, vehicle, manufacturing, quality, supplier, and compliance teams. Assignments may vary by program and business need, and will focus on Serial Data or Platform Calibrations, with possible related engine calibration functions. The selected candidate designs, develops, calibrates, validates, and releases engine control and diagnostic solutions; evaluates results using data acquisition, empirical analysis, and engineering judgment; and supports engine, dynamometer, vehicle, and emissions development and validation. The role also includes requirements development, technical reviews, root-cause analysis, troubleshooting, corrective actions, risk mitigation, process improvement, cross-functional coordination, and communication and documentation of technical status, risks, recommendations, timing impacts, regulatory information, and calibration records. The position is categorized as hybrid. The selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least three times per week or at another frequency set by their manager. The role is not eligible for relocation benefits. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering or technical discipline.
  • Minimum of two years of technical, calibration, controls, diagnostics, or related engineering experience.
  • Experience with data acquisition and analytical problem solving on complex technical systems.
  • Knowledge of powertrain or engine systems and engineering principles governing mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to support hands-on development and validation activities, including operation of test vehicles when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with engine calibration, controls, diagnostics, emissions, vehicle development, or related technical work.
  • Experience with in-vehicle, serial data, or other development and validation testing.
  • Experience with calibration and data-analysis tools, including ETAS INCA/MDA or similar products.
  • Automotive OEM, supplier, manufacturing, or compliance experience.
  • Graduate degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Support one of two primary discipline areas: Serial Data and Platform Calibrations; assignments may include related engine calibration functions.
  • Design, develop, calibrate, validate, and release engine control and diagnostic solutions that meet performance, emissions, regulatory, customer, and program requirements.
  • Use data acquisition, empirical analysis, and engineering judgment to evaluate results and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Support engine, dynamometer, vehicle, and emissions development and validation activities, including emissions-correlated diagnostics.
  • Support requirements development, technical reviews, root-cause analysis, troubleshooting, and corrective-action activities, including investigation of related diagnostic trouble codes.
  • Identify calibration risks and vulnerabilities, develop mitigation approaches, and support program objectives and launch readiness.
  • Follow, improve, and help establish calibration procedures, standard work, and technical processes.
  • Collaborate across engineering and business functions to align technical work and resolve issues.
  • Communicate technical status, risks, recommendations, actions, and timing impacts, and maintain technical documentation, regulatory documentation, and calibration records.
