Calendar Operator
About The Position
The Calendar Operator is responsible for monitoring and adjusting the calender and all accompanying equipment to ensure the rubber sheet remains wrinkle-free and at the proper thickness. This role involves maintaining detailed records, consulting product specifications, and ensuring proper rubber adhesion. The operator will also prepare and splice backing rolls, operate a hoist, adjust rubber sheet width, and understand safety devices. Additionally, the operator will assist the strip feed operator, maintain a clean work area, and adhere to ISO9001 standards and continuous improvement principles.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of the safety devices on the mills and calender
- Ability to safely operate the hoist used to position backing rolls
- Ability to prepare backing rolls for mounting and perform backing splices
- Ability to adjust water valves or set digital controls to ensure proper rubber adhesion
- Ability to adjust rubber sheet width (trim) as directed
- Ability to keep a record of running speeds, gauge of rubber, and adjustments made
- Ability to consult product specification sheets for speeds, backing requirements, and weights
- Ability to monitor and adjust the calender and accompanying equipment for wrinkle-free and proper thickness rubber sheets
- Ability to keep work area clean and free of safety hazards

- Ability to initiate action to prevent nonconformities
- Ability to identify and/or record problems relating to product, process, and quality system

Responsibilities
- Monitors and adjusts the calender and all accompanying equipment so rubber sheet remains wrinkle-free and at the proper thickness
- Keeps a record of running speeds, gauge of rubber, and any adjustments made by request of the supervisor or inspector on the “Calender Daily Log” sheet
- Consults the “Product Specification Sheet” for proper sheeter speeds, backing requirements, and product weights
- Adjusts water valves (Line 2) or sets digital controls (Line 1) on the calender to ensure proper rubber adhesion to bowls
- Prepares backing rolls for mounting on machine and performs backing splices when necessary
- Safely operates the hoist used to position backing rolls
- Adjusts rubber sheet width (trim) as directed by the supervisor or inspector
