About The Position

The Cake Decorator prepares and decorates cakes and other bakery products, assists customers with product questions and orders, and helps keep the bakery department stocked, appealing, clean, and operating smoothly. The role includes creating standard and custom designs, following company-approved recipes, maintaining product freshness and inventory records, and adhering to sanitation, health, OSHA, and safety requirements. The position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
1–2 years of experience in decorating.
Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, with or without an accommodation.

Responsibilities

Keep the bakery department well stocked and appealing to meet customer demand.
Greet customers, suggest products, answer questions about products and cake preparation, and help resolve customer concerns promptly and courteously.
Take customer orders by phone or in person, determine the requested size, flavor, and appearance, and complete decorated products in a timely manner.
Decorate cakes and other bakery products using dyes, specified designs, or custom designs, and use creams, frostings, and fillings consistently.
Make icing and follow company-approved recipes.
Trim and cut cakes to the required shape and size, spread icing between layers and over cake surfaces, and tint white icing to required colors.
Assist with filling and merchandising the bakery sales area in accordance with production logs.
Prepare cakes, pastries, and other products for the service case; follow rotation and markdown policies to maintain quality and freshness.
Help maintain inventory levels through proper ordering and production logging.
When properly trained, assist with receiving, unloading, checking in, breaking down, and storing deliveries using a power jack or hand jack.
When properly trained, assist with baling cardboard and related duties.
Maintain general department sanitation by following cleaning schedules and department guidelines; keep work areas, equipment, counters, and display cases clean and maintained, comply with health and OSHA requirements, and dispose of trash properly.
Cooperate with co-workers and supervisors to support smooth department and store operations, and continuously improve job performance.
Use company-provided personal protective equipment, including cut-resistant gloves, safety cutters, and company-sponsored footwear.
Assist in other departments when called upon.
