About The Position

As a member of the C&S Wholesale Grocers family of companies, SpartanNash is a food solutions company that distributes grocery and household goods and operates grocery stores, pharmacies, and fuel centers. The Cake Decorator decorates cakes and other products, assists with bakery duties, and helps maintain and operate the bakery department efficiently in accordance with company policy. The role also supports the shift’s financial interests and completes other assigned duties in a timely manner.

The position is based at 2755 Lake MI Drive, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49504. It involves working in a typical retail store environment with varied temperatures and occasional exposure to outside weather conditions. Travel requirements vary by assignment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to read, write, comprehend, and interpret documents.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Detail oriented.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.

Responsibilities

• Decorate cakes, cookies, and other items according to the production schedule and customer requests.
• Perform baking and frying duties as assigned.
• Price, date, wrap, and/or bag bakery products.
• Fill, rotate, and merchandise bakery shelves, cases, and displays properly.
• Notify the Bakery Manager when products or supplies need to be ordered.
• Handle spoiled or damaged products according to established guidelines.
• Assist with receiving, unloading, and stocking merchandise.
• Maintain familiarity with products carried in the department, including differences in price, taste, preparation, and use.
• Use suggestive selling techniques with customers.
• Maintain a clean, attractive, and well-stocked department.
• Follow PPE and safety guidelines, food safety and cleaning expectations, and guest experience guidelines.
• Perform tasks in other departments when assigned.
• Complete additional responsibilities as needed.
