About The Position

The Elementary Cafeteria Monitor prepares the cafeteria for students, assists them as they enter and exit, and supports safe, appropriate behavior during mealtime. The monitor helps students open meal items and guides them through cleaning up their personal area and tray. The role also involves working with the custodian between grade-level lunch periods and communicating concerns to the assistant principal. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily. Reports to the Assistant Principal/Principal.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the cafeteria for students’ arrival by checking that tables are clean and laying out paper placemats for students who bring lunch.
• Assist students as they enter and exit the cafeteria.
• Help students open meal items.
• Monitor student behavior to ensure safety.
• Model and encourage appropriate mealtime behaviors.
• Facilitate cleanup, including cleaning personal areas, dumping tray contents into a trash can, placing trays in the area to be cleaned, and sitting quietly while waiting for the teacher to arrive.
• Work with the custodian to clean areas as one grade level exits and another enters.
• Communicate concerns with the assistant principal.
