About The Position

This role involves learning all aspects of a school nutrition operation, with training provided by an assigned site manager. The trainee will also assume the duties of campus managers during their leave. Key responsibilities include ensuring food preparation and service meet TDA regulations, adhering to school menu time constraints, and complying with health codes. The position aims to develop an individual into a fully capable cafeteria manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Holds or is working to obtain, Food Manager Certification.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and appliances used in food preparation.
  • Ability to manage employees.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Computer Knowledge.
  • Cashier Experience.
  • Three years experience in institutional food service operations.

Responsibilities

  • Learn all aspects of the food service program and managers job through on the job training and manager trainee classes.
  • Assist other food service personnel in interpreting the goals and objectives of the food service program to students, teachers, staff, and the community.
  • Direct daily activities in the kitchen, supervise and assist in the production, service, and storage of food.
  • Maintain a file of standardized recipes and instruct personnel in their use.
  • Outline specific duties and work schedules for all employees, and post instructions for equipment use and maintenance schedules.
  • Supervise and train employees at the campus, promoting efficiency, employee morale, and teamwork.
  • Plan the use of equipment for efficiency and economy.
  • Develop and maintain a systematic food purchasing system, purchasing food wisely, and checking deliveries against orders and invoices for quality, quantity, and accurate weight.
  • Maintain adequate, accurate records and controls, including financial, personnel, inventories, operational reports, records, and the purchasing of food, supplies, and equipment.
  • Cooperate with local health officials in supporting local and state public health laws and codes.
  • Maintain a safe and hazard-free working environment.
  • Provide leadership in professional organizations and participate in in-service and continuing educational programs for self and other personnel.
  • Follow all procedures of the computer system and maintain up-to-date records.
  • Create an atmosphere in the school lunchroom that inspires students and faculty to want to have their meals in the cafeteria.
  • Encourage each employee to observe high standards of grooming and work habits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
