About The Position

The Cafeteria Cook prepares food in accordance with planned menus and in sufficient quantities, maintains proper food storage and temperatures, and helps ensure food service areas and equipment are clean, organized, and sanitary. The role supports ordering, stocking, and inventory as needed and may assist with dishwashing, floor cleaning, trash removal, and sanitizing tables and service areas. The position is part of a Job Corps program that provides services to help young people succeed in school, obtain good jobs, and contribute to their communities.

Requirements

Three to six months of related experience and/or training.
Ability to make quantitative calculations using fractional and decimal measurement units.
High school diploma.
Valid state driver’s license.
County Sanitation Certification.

Nice To Haves

Supervisory experience preferred.
One year in Culinary Arts or a related field from a college or technical school, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepare food according to planned menus and in sufficient quantities.
Ensure food is stored properly and that hot and cold food items are kept at appropriate temperatures.
Inspect work areas daily to ensure the storeroom, refrigerators, freezers, service areas, and dining rooms are organized and clean.
Handle food in a sanitary manner during receipt, preparation, and storage.
Check the food temperature log daily to ensure temperatures are maintained and documented in accordance with health regulations.
Check equipment daily to ensure cleanliness and sanitation techniques are followed.
Notify the Food Service Supervisor and issue work orders for repairs or replacement when necessary.
Assist the Supervisor with ordering, stocking, and inventory as needed.
As needed, wash dishes, sweep and mop floors, remove trash, and clean and sanitize tables and service areas.
Perform other duties as assigned.
