About The Position

The Cafeteria Aide is responsible for actively supervising students in the cafeteria during the lunchtime period. This role involves assisting with student transitions into and around the lunchroom, and supporting students in the orderly procurement of their lunches. The Aide will also supervise students while they eat to ensure they are orderly, safe, and mannerly. A key aspect of this role is working with students to teach appropriate lunchroom etiquette, good manners, self-cleanup, and encouraging positive social interaction among students. Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to lift 20-25 pounds.
  • Ability to relate to children in a positive but firm manner.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with children and adults.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children.
  • Emotionally resilient in working with challenging behaviors.

Responsibilities

  • Actively supervise students in the cafeteria during the lunchtime period.
  • Help with the transition of students into and around the lunchroom.
  • Assist students in the orderly procurement of their lunches.
  • Supervise students while eating to assure they are orderly, safe, and mannerly.
  • Work with students to learn appropriate lunchroom etiquette, good manners, and cleaning up after themselves.
  • Encourage appropriate, positive intermingling of students.
  • Guide groups of students through the lunchroom.
  • Guide students toward appropriate behavior while in the lunch line.
  • Assist younger children in getting lunch trays, milk, and condiments.
  • Help children in opening lunch items.
  • Monitor student behavior and provide appropriate discipline as necessary within the guidelines of school rules.
  • Assist students in cleaning up after themselves (spills, wiping tables, disposing of trash, etc.).
  • Help to wash tables, pick up floor trash, and ready condiments between lunch sessions and after the lunch period.
  • Work with kitchen, custodial, and instructional staff to implement ways to make the lunchtime run more smoothly and efficiently.
  • Remove trash from the lunchroom and deposit in large waste container(s).
  • Perform general cleanup of the lunchroom.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to assist the staff of the school in getting adequate lunch breaks while providing appropriate school supervision.
