About The Position

Michael Baker International is seeking a highly experienced CAD Designer/Technician to support civil engineering and infrastructure projects for its rail group. The role works with design engineers to produce plans for structure and track disciplines in railway engineering projects. Using MicroStation, OpenBridge Modeler, OpenRoads Designer, and Autodesk CADD platforms, the designer prepares preliminary and final drawings, layouts, maps, charts, and designs that meet company, project, and client CAD standards. The position is based in a Midwest office—Cleveland, Omaha, Des Moines, or Chicago—on a hybrid basis. Exceptional candidates may be considered for full-time remote work. The role includes independent drawing production, CAD standards maintenance, multidisciplinary coordination, quality reviews, mentoring, and leadership of CAD production on large and complex projects.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, certification course, or two-year technical degree.
At least 8 years of CADD design experience.
Experience in transportation engineering, including structural detailing and mentoring staff.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, OpenRoads Designer, and MicroStation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
Ability to use Microsoft Teams collaboration software.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with Bluebeam.
Ability to work independently in a hybrid office/remote work environment.

Nice To Haves

Civil 3D experience.
CADD experience on transportation and bridge projects.

Responsibilities

Independently produce preliminary and final engineering plan drawings in accordance with design standards, client standards, and project requirements.
Create and update drawings as new information becomes available.
Prepare and maintain CAD standards, templates, and best practices across platforms.
Use technical manuals to ensure compliance with company and client policies and applicable project standards.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design elements, resolve conflicts, and ensure accurate design plans.
Review and analyze drawings for errors, inconsistencies, and compliance with project requirements.
Keep up-to-date with CAD technology trends and advancements.
Mentor and support junior CAD designers and technicians by providing technical guidance and training.
Integrate survey data, GIS data, and engineering calculations into design drawings.
Manage multiple assignments while meeting project schedules and deadlines.
Coordinate with engineers and project managers to resolve design issues and optimize constructability.
Lead CAD production efforts for large and complex projects, ensuring adherence to company standards, client requirements, and DOT criteria.
Perform quality-control reviews of CAD files and construction documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.
