This intermediate-level position requires satisfactory performance of tasks assigned at the CAD Technician I level. The incumbent exercises some independent responsibility in resolving problems, handling communications, and understanding department and work-unit procedures. The role performs non-routine drafting assignments of moderate complexity from rough or general drawings, sketches, or layouts, including irregular shapes, multiple functions, and precise positional relationships between components. Work is performed independently after initial assignment, with advice available from a supervisor or engineering or design personnel. The position generally coordinates its work details with other groups or sections within the department and may provide technical advice to a Drafter 1. Under some supervision, the CAD Technician provides diagrams, schematics, layouts, multiview drawings, and other drawings to scale in accordance with client requests. The role creates engineering drawings and related specifications for civil and electrical equipment based on engineering sketches, specifications, related data, and drawings. Drawings may cover structures, schematics, foundations, grounding, steel, layouts, equipment, apparatus, wiring, panels, AC and DC systems, one-lines, and other materials needed for substation, relay, and line design job packages. The position also performs mathematical, geometrical, and minor engineering computations, files drawings, maintains catalogs of engineering data, and performs other routine drawing-room functions as required.
